Mary Penn
I was born and have lived in Bloomington, Illinois most of my life, except for
some time spent with my husband at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois
and Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota while he was in the US
Air Force. Most of his time in the Air Force was spent in Southeast Asia, so I have
a good understanding of military family life with deployment a major part of life.
We have one daughter (who was born at Scott Air Force Base) three grandchildren
and 5 great-grandchildren.
I am a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in accounting, and have
obtained the CPA designation. Before and during my years at Illinois State I worked
as a bookkeeper. Upon graduation, I worked as a CPA for Striegel Knobloch & Co.
retiring from full time work in 2005 and working for 14 more years during tax season,
then fully retiring.
I serve on the foundation board of Heartland Community College, volunteer with
the Tinervin Foundation and with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
I am so thankful to those who serve in the military and their families for their sacrifices
so, all can be free.
